A special Live at Lunch for Nottingham Poetry Festival exploring "the only truly memorable bad poet in our language" (Times Literary Supplement)
William Topaz McGonagall was a nineteenth century Scottish weaver, actor and poet. It is in this role that he achieved immortality with over 200 poems. Each one magnificently ignorant to poetic metaphor and imagery, but replaced with an innate inability to scan correctly.
With poems such as An Address to Shakespeare and of course The Tay Bridge Disaster, David Longford, Theatre Royal Learning Manager and actor Robbie Robb guide you through the life and work of this poetic 'genius' in this entertaining lunchtime talk.
With readings of McGonagall's excruciating verse, as well as accounts of his extraordinary life, this is one event where complaints are not necessary – we already know it's not very good.
This event is free admission but booking is required due to limited capacity.
Access to the Dress Circle foyer will be open from 12.15pm, and the bar will be open for refreshments, before the performance starts at 1pm.
Yarn Bar is also open every day from 11.30am for coffee, brunch and lunch.
