What drives a soldier’s ambition? What happens when aspiration turns to murder? What are the bloody consequences?
Staged against the backdrop of a First World War rehabilitation centre, Heartbreak Production’s innovative interpretation of Shakespeare’s most haunting tragedy is electrifying in its portrayal of a soldier’s blood- stained aspirations. Fuelled by the dangerous promise of prophecy, Macbeth and his devious wife develop murderous intent and are confronted with its inescapable repercussions.
Witchcraft, manipulation and brutality unfold as the production transports the Scottish tragedy into the midst of the war wounded warriors and patriotic brass band sound of World War I. Focussing on the nature of recovery from war, Heartbreak’s Macbeth delves into what happens when killing in battle becomes murder in society.
Audacious and inventive, this adaptation will thrill you with its dark humour and bold exploration of the dark and barbarous side of human nature.
