Madame Parboiled: The Original Beggar's Banquet

Wednesday 18 JUly 2018 | 7.15pm - 11.15pm
The Bell Inn
Tickets £18

A night of singing, table thumping, laughter, excellent food and ale to take your troubles away.

Join Kath George in the guise of Etty Slack!

History of the Beggar's Banquet

In Victorian England people flooded into towns across England looking for work, only to find there was none or what there was was so poorly paid they were left watching their family starve. The housing situation was no better and many were homeless, destitute, or just plain bewildered.

To ease the suffering the town corporations put up soup kitchens and fed the poor and gave them a glass of beer. When fed and cheered the poor enjoyed entertainment from street entertainers with a right good sing-a-long with songs popular at the time.

We invite you to join us in the spirit of the Beggars Banquet with songs from musicals, comical sketches, monologues and a good old sing song with some of your old favorites (and some a bit more recent).
