17 April 2014, 6.30pm- 8.30pm
This session will provide a unique opportunity to discuss the concept of The Aura of Boxing from the perspective of the artist Max Kandhola, the academic David Scott and a professional boxer (to be confirmed).
Max's photographic research was created through working intensively and intimately in gyms with the boxers. Experiencing the taste, heat, touch and smell of skin and sweat - even catching blows and punches - was an essential part of the process. Penetrating the boxer's space in this way was vital in ensuring an deep sensory interrogation of the subject. Through his camera he endeavours to capture the boxers' aura - a brief and unique transcendental moment of an extreme heightened awareness.
The talk will explore the intense process the artist and boxer went through in creating the images. David Scott will lead the session to extract the reflection of both Max Kandhola and the boxer.
