Nimbus Sextet are touring off the back of their second Acid Jazz album, FORWARD THINKER, released in May '22. It sees the band expand their musical horizons, incorporating hip-hop and dance elements to the jazz, world and funk sounds they are well known for.
The core of the Nimbus sound comes courtesy of bandleader and primary composer Joe Nichols (keys/harmonica), and long-time collaborators Alex Palmer (drums) and Mischa Stevens (bass), who met while studying at Edinburgh University. The full lineup includes trumpeter Euan Allardice, saxophonist Michael Butcher and guitarist Honza Kourimsky.
The new album features guest spots from top UK jazz musicians including Nathaniel Cross, Jackson Mathod, Charlotte de Graaf, Jonny Enser and others. Tonight's performance follows hot off the heels of album launch shows at the New Morning in Paris and Pizza Express Live in London, and a packed out first performance at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club back in January. Having garnered widespread critical acclaim from the likes of Jazzwise, BBC Radio 2 and major support from Jazz FM (including achieving the prestigious 'Album Of The Week' spotlight with both of their albums), the band have firmly established themselves as a major voice in the new wave of British jazz.
Nimbus Sextet are primed and ready to take their engaging sound to audiences in all corners of the globe with the release of 'FORWARD THINKER', their most accomplished and fully realised release to date.
"Diverse musical intelligence is regularly evident… Leader Joe Nichols' keyboards are clearly a strength, cutting against the groove and clearing space for more personal expression" – Jazzwise
