About

Nottingham Peacebuilders present - Fanfare For Hope
St Mary's Church | Nottingham
Saturday 27 October 2018 | 7.30pm
Tickets: £10 | £7 under 16s

An immersive experience of music and digital image, memory, poetry and song - a vision of war and a dream of peace.

A feast for the senses where music, image and voice interweave to create a spine-tingling narrative of war and peace. New suite of music from David Wilson and extracts from Britten's Billy Budd combine with powerful image projection by award-winning digital artist Barret Hodgson.

Synchronised to the music of trumpets, piano, percussion, organ and voice, images play on the stones around the auditorium and bring to life a powerful evocation of WWI by war hero and poet, Siegfried Sassoon.

Baritone                 Geoff Williams
Piano and organ    John Keys (Director of Music, St Mary's)
Trumpet quartet:    leader Gordon Truman
Percussion            Tom Williams
Spoken word         Tanya Myers
Conductor             Derek Williams (Musical Director NSO)

Plus:

A special feature of poetry, memory and music from Nottingham Black Archive and writer, Panya Banjoko commemorates the stories of Caribbean men and women who served Britain in wartime.

With special appearances:

Piano - Fitz Chamberlain Saint Pitman Brown
Harbour Lights (Grosz/Kennedy) sung by Abii

The story of a grandfather's WWI diary with extracts read by his grandson Andy McKay.

Special guest speaker Josie Parker - Hope For The Future

As Sassoon leaves you with the question - how shall we do things differently in the future? Josie speaks of her own passionate commitment to a world free from the fear of nuclear war. She has spoken widely on this topic, notably at the United Nations.
