Nottingham Tennis Centre Open Weekend
Nottingham Tennis Centre is opening its doors this weekend with an invitation to the whole community to come and experience the facilities on offer for free.
As well as junior and adult tennis coaching sessions, visitors can use the state of the art gym facilities, take part in fitness classes, and relax in the steam and sauna rooms. There are Notts Tots sessions for 0-5 year olds as well as fun sporting games and activities for younger visitors.
Those wanting to see how fit they actually are can have a Body MOT with an expert gym instructor. There is also the chance to take part in various gym challenges using heart rate monitors.
Over the past week, the centre’s coaching team has been working in conjunction with the Tennis Foundation and the Lawn Tennis Association to engage local primary schools in free tennis activity.
The schools involved are: Dunkirk Primary, Ambleside Primary, Fernwood Primary, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Primary, Our Lady St Edwards Primary, Blue Bell Hill Primary, Whitemoor Primary, Burford Primary, and Scotholme Primary. Sessions have been delivered to a total of 1,755 children.
All of these children and their parents have been invited to the open weekend.
Lord Mayor of Nottingham, Councillor Jackie Morris, will be visiting on Saturday morning to meet some of the participants and to tour the facilities which will host ATP (men’s) and WTA (women’s) Aegon Open, pre-Wimbledon events in June this year.
The Lord Mayor said: “I've really enjoyed watching the Davis Cup, Federation Cup and the Australian Open recently and seeing how well our Team GB players have done. Some of those players train regularly at Nottingham Tennis Centre. I'm looking forward to meeting the stars of tomorrow from the schools at this event.
Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture said: “I hope this open day will really inspire our citizens to visit the centre regularly either to play tennis or to use the wonderful fitness facilities. There is something here for every age and all kinds of sporting activity happening every day.”
The team will be available to advise those interested in memberships. There are further special offers for those who visit and sign up during the weekend.
Whether it’s a tennis membership or a fitness membership, anybody can sign up in February and get their first month for free.
