Papplewick Pumping Station - A talk by Peter Nicholls

About

Tuesday 17 May 2022 I 7pm
Venue: Arnold Methodist Church Arnold
Tickets: £1 for members and £3 for non members

Now protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, the highest preservation order that can be bestowed upon a site in England, this beautiful place was designed in the early 1880s to pump millions of gallons of clean fresh water every day to the rapidly increasing population of Industrial Nottingham.

Today, thanks to the endeavours of The Papplewick Pumping Station Trust, a Registered Charity dedicated to the preservation of the Pumping Station, and the enthusiasm of the volunteer members of the Papplewick Association, you can still experience the most spectacular preserved water Pumping Station in the British Isles.

Peter Nicholls talk gives a fascinating insight into the history of this incredible feat of engineering. The station, famed for its ornamentation and Gothic Revival style architecture, is without doubt the most elaborate surviving Victorian fresh water Pumping Stations in the British Isles.  All are welcome to come along and listen to this fascinating illustrated talk.
