PARKLIVES BRINGS SUMMER OF FREE FUN TO NOTTINGHAM

Nottingham parents and their purses will be spared this summer as Nottingham ParkLives launches hundreds of new free summer activity sessions in local parks, with families encouraged to try their hand at everything from Zumba to Tai Chi.

With different activity types to try entirely free of charge, this is one summer outing that won’t strain the family budget. The new summer ParkLives timetable – which is being delivered by Nottingham City Council in partnership with Coca-Cola Great Britain – offers a whole host of activities including yoga in the park, rounders and beginners running.

Sessions will be held between 10am and 7pm every day of the summer holiday across 20 community parks. Families are encouraged to come and try something new and there is no charge for any activities.

Other activities available throughout the summer include:
•Park Fit in Victoria Embankment Park – session leaders will show you how to use outdoor gym equipment to tone up and improve your fitness for free, in the fresh air.
•Ultimate Frisbee in Colwick Country Park – a fun way to get fit in the park that is suitable for everyone, no matter what age or ability.
•Multi-games in Highfields Park - Family fun with a range of games and activities on offer, including hula hoops, skipping, throwing and catching.

The sessions, which are typically an hour long, are all led by a trained activity leader. There are lots of opportunities for families to get active together, as well as a number of sessions aimed at younger and older residents.

A full timetable – including a postcode park finder – can be found at www.parklives.com, where people can also register and book to attend sessions. Those interested can also email parklives@nottinghamcity.gov.uk for more information.

Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, Councillor Dave Trimble said: “This summer we’re bringing lots of activities into the mix, offering everything from Zumba to Pond Dipping, so there’s sure to be something to pique everyone’s interest. The sessions are designed to create a fun and encouraging environment so that anyone and everyone can get involved, including families. We’re looking forward to welcoming new faces from across Nottingham – and remember, all our activities are free.”

ParkLives is part of Coca-Cola Great Britain’s commitment to invest £20m between now and 2020 in programmes to encourage and support people to be physically active.

Liz Lowe, ParkLives lead at Coca-Cola Great Britain, said: “Nottingham’s parks are going to be full of life this summer as new sessions are added to provide fun and free activities for the whole community.  It’s the perfect opportunity for anyone to come out, enjoy the sun and their local green spaces while trying out something new and making new friends. There’s something for everyone, whatever their age or ability, so come along and check out what’s happening in your local park.”
