Opening times: 2pm - 5pm

The younger generation can't imagine what it was like.

Harry Patch - The last survivor from World War I

As part of the centenary commemorations of the start of World War I Holme Pierrepont Hall is hosting an exhibition of images depicting scenes from the Great War.  The series of post cards issued at the time show the horrors of this war.  They have been enlarged for the exhibition.

It was in August 1914 that the bloodiest war in history unfolded in mainland Europe with 65 million men fighting in battle, 19.7 million were wounded and a staggering 37 million died.

It became apparent that the great houses of Britain would have to be used to help the war effort .  Holme Pierrepont like many country houses was a convalescent home for many of those who survived the trenches.  Other houses were used as hospitals, bases for regiments , a place for evacuees to go, and prisoners of war.

Entry fee: £5 (Children go FREE)

This event forms part of Trent to Trenches- a county wide programme of commemorative activities across Nottingham City and County www.experiencenottinghamshire.com/trent-to-trenches
