Do you have a nearly finished draft that you would like to be published?
This one-day course will provide you with the resources, skills and confidence to take your work and approach to an agent or publisher.
On this course, you will work towards preparing the manuscript to a high standard and receive advice on proofreading, editing, marketing and storytelling.
You will also get to grips with the do's and dont's of the publishing world, knowing how and where to approach publishers.
Classroom discussions and critiques will be combined with a variety of editing and proofreading tasks and one to one feedback.
During the course you will:
- Understand the publishing industry process
- Gain insight on the different methods of publishing
- Have 1:1 personalised feedback about your work
- Undergo proofreading and editing tasks
- Put together a marketing plan
What will I gain?
You will leave with a clear understanding of how the industry is shaped for publishing, be able to prepare your work for publishers and have the confidence to approach a publisher with your manuscript.
Level: Beginner
Entry requirement: You should have a near complete or complete draft ready to send to a publisher.
Tutor profile: Charlotte Baker is an author and an associate lecturer and PhD student at the University of Derby.
She has an interest in horror, identification, true crime and fandom.
