26Kick start your Saturday with these drop-in creative workshops. The perfect chance to get creative as a family, this season take inspiration from John Akomfrah's multi-screen installation Mimesis: African Soldier. Using a variety of materials, the activities will draw on themes of remembrance, war and loss. Get playful and inspired on Saturday mornings by making together as a family.

12 October - In this session you will focus on creating your own flags. You will consider the importance of identity, to create a flag that represents you as an individual by working with card and fabric to build up a collaged flag.

26 October - Join us in creating Medals of Peace, by making clay medallions with shapes, patterns and symbols of peace. After you have created your medal attach ribbons for decoration and wear them proudly!

16 November - Millions of Africans and people of colour from across the globe fought and took part in the First World War. We'll be using maps of the world and images of soldiers to make decoupage collages, to explore the wide reaching areas they came from.

14 December - Linking to the imagery in Mimesis: African Solider, which features running water over uniforms and images that appear trapped, or forgotten, this session will look at how we can uncover and create images using sunlight, and watch them appear in shallow water, rather than disappear. Working with a selection of film stills from Mimesis: African Solider we will layer objects, and drawings onto the images to create fun cyanotypes.

Check out our children's Activity Zone while you're at the venue!
