Steaming Days at Papplewick Pumping Station

About

Enjoy a fascinating day out at Britain's finest Victorian water works by visiting on one of their Steaming Days:

The pumping station will be in steam on the dates below. Tickets can be bought online AND from the museum shop on the day of your visit. Tickets will become available usually two weeks before the event is scheduled to take place. Please note that it is cheaper to buy your tickets on line.

Christmas 2023

Join their Christmas Market with evening lamp light steaming on Saturday 2 & Sunday 3 December, 10am – 6pm.

Immerse yourself in Papplewick’s sights and sounds as you explore the market stalls and discover unique gifts, crafts, and treats from local artisans. Check out the entertainment from top vocalist Jayne Darling on the Saturday and Bestwood Male Voice Choir on the Sunday and be sure to visit their very special Santa's Grotto!

As you explore the event, don't miss the opportunity to experience the pumping station's mesmerizing steam-powered machinery. Witness the mighty James Watt beam engines in action and learn about the fascinating history of this Victorian gem. Also, take a tour of the awe inspiring unground reservoir which has to be seen to be believed (small additional fee of £4 pp applies).

As an extra festive treat, the pumping station will steam into the early evening. This is a rare opportunity to see the pumping station and its grounds lit for night time.
