About

Nottingham Trent University
Thursday 18 - Friday 19 August 2022 | 10am - 4pm, two days
£225

This course is all about how to make visual impact in what is a competitive industry, exploring the major influences on interior styling.

You will review the most influential interior stylists and their work today, the sources of inspiration they are using, and then create your own unique visuals for exciting projects.

On this course, you will investigate the role of the interior stylist. You will learn how to successfully generate, evaluate and present styling concepts in order to produce a successful scheme, exploring themes such as vintage, retro and reproduction. It will give you an understanding of what can work together in a space, and how to create harmony, balance or a sense of adventure. You will work on styling briefs with support from your tutor, and be part of group discussions and critiques as well as complete research and proposals at home. You will discover new sources of inspiration, and learn how to develop a personal approach.

On this course, you will:

- explore interior styling in the context of magazine, advertising and domestic project briefs
- develop an interior styling project that includes colour, light, texture, furniture and objects
- look at interior design treatments, materials, context and regional styling
- complete a proposal for a home interior as well as a dynamic area for a boutique hotel.

What will you gain?

By the end of the course, you will have gained valuable knowledge of different interior styles and periods, and have the skills and ideas to take on further personal or professional projects.

Level: Beginner

Entry requirement: You should have some experience in interior design, either through attending other courses or by completing your own projects.

Where you'll learn: You will be based in the School of Architecture, Design and Built Environment on the City Campus.

You will find open-plan studios and well-equipped workshop spaces to develop your ideas and create exciting work.

You'll also have access to the library to use outside of your short course; whilst you can't reserve or take away books, you are welcome to use them as a resource for research and referencing.

Tutor Profile: Nina Roberts-James is an interior designer who has worked on international large-scale projects, from concept through to construction.

Nina has designed for companies such as Selfridges and the Birmingham Made Me council, as well as Aedas and Benoy.

Nina is also currently a lecturer on the Interior Architecture and Design course at NTU.
