The Angel Microbrewery
Saturday 12 - Sunday 13 May 2018 | 1 - 5pm
£2 Donation
In one form or another a pub has stood on the site of the Angel Microbrewery for the past 400 years, making this historic spot one of Nottingham's most fascinating drinking holes. From the Victorian chapel that sits on the first floor - now host to Nottingham's buzzing live music scene - to the caves deep beneath, you'll find a plethora of historical tales within the walls of The Angel.
Below the beer cellar are some of the famous Nottingham caves. Unlike the caves under other Nottingham venues, those below the Old Angel Inn were hollowed out of the sub-soil in the shape of a crucifix. What’s more, the building is said to be haunted by the ghost of the prostitute who was murdered.
You can take informal tours of the pub caves and discover what lies beneath throughout the weekend of #CaveCity, and on Sunday 13th May your tour guide will be none other than Ezekial Bone - Nottingham's very own Robin Hood - who will take you into the caves and regale you with some of the intriguing history of the building.
Tours running every hour, on the hour between 1 - 5pm Saturday and Sunday. Just pay £3 and leave your name at the bar to book.
Please Note: Cave floors may be uneven and some ceilings are low. Please wear appropriate footwear if possible.
In celebration of Nottingham’s 800 caves, #CaveCity invites you to explore this mysterious terrain which has lain beneath the city for hundreds of years. With tours, talks, activities and experiences throughout the city, including some of the city's lesser known cave locations, please visit the Cave City: Nottingham Underground Festival page for a full list of events, or check out the festival itinerary to plan your weekend.
