D.H. Lawrence Heritage
The family of D.H. Lawrence moved to ‘The Breach House’, (known to readers of Sons and Lovers as “The Bottoms”), from Victoria Street in 1887 and lived here until 1891.
As an end house with extra space, this move was a step up the property ladder, with the Lawrence's paying an extra six pennies a week rent for the privilege.
Today the top two floors of the property form a holiday cottage, with the ground floor and gardens kept as a museum and remaining much as they did in 1891.
Members of the D.H. Lawrence Society will be on hand throughout the weekend to guide visitors around this historic property.
