Every year the International Byron Festival takes place in Hucknall and Newstead Abbey to celebrate the life of poet Lord Byron.

This ever-popular annual festival features a variety of activities to suit all ages and interests in and around Hucknall.

There is definitely something for all the family with many events and activities being free of charge:

Friday 6 July:

The Byron Friday Market | Market Place Hucknall from 10am-4pm

Enjoy Martin the Joker whilst you shop - also includes balloon modelling, stilt walking and Unicycling.

Sarzana Cathedral Choir (Italy) | St Mary Magdalene Church from 7.30pm

'Juvenes Cantores della Cattedrale di Sarzana' Will be singing at St Mary Magdalene Church - tickets available from the JohnGodber Centre (£5). The choir will also be singing at Southwell Minster at 12.30pm the same day (admission free).

Saturday 7 July:

Annual History Day ‘Hucknall Celebrates’ | Hucknall Market Place from 10am – 3pm

Hucknall Heritage Society would like to share with you the celebrations and festivities of bygone years.  FREE

Sunday 8 July:

Recreating History (1798) | Newstead Abbey from 2pm

Head to Newstead Abbey and see the ten year old boy 'Byron' arriving with his Mother. Starts from the Pilgrim Oak (A60) main gate at 2pm. There will be a period costume display in the Abbey. Miranda Seymour will sign her new book 'In Byron's Wake'. Listen to the South Notts' Hussars Association Band play in the park. Nottingham Heritage Vehicles Charity will be there with their beautifully restored buses.

Wednesday 11 July:

Don't Go In The Cellar - Victorian Theatre with a Bite

Ladies and gentlemen you are cordially invited to the wittiest 'chit-chat' show where a gay time is guaranteed. Afternoon Tea with Oscar Wilde.

Includes afternoon tea following the show. Must be pre-booked via the John Godber Centre (£10)

Thursday 12 July:

Hucknall's Got Talent | John Godber Centre from 7pm

A showcase for local talent, come along to celebrate and enjoy a host of local entertainers. Compared by Philip Rostance. Admission free.

Friday 13 July:

Heritage Bus Tour | Start from John Godber Centre from 9.30am

A bus will take you to the grounds of Newstead Abbey then on to Annesley Old Church and All Saints Church Annesley (buffet lunch will be served). After lunch the bus will take you to St Mary Magdalene Church for the final visit. Booking essential (£6) on 0115 9638566 or htrg@outlook.com

Saturday 14 July:

Hucknall Saturday Market | Hucknall Market Place

Be sure not to miss a flash dance by the boys and girls of the Believe Academy in the market at 11am. Also between 11am - 3pm Notts County's Football in the Community scheme will be on hand so people can test out their football skills.

The Annual Byron Dinner | Bella Mia Restaurant

This popular restaurant has been the venue for the Byron Festival Dinner for a number of years - the restaurant serves delightful Italian cuisine. Head there for an evening of good food and great fun. Booking essential on 01636 813818.

Sunday 15 July:

Bestwood Male Voice Choir | John Godber Centre from 7.30pm

Enjoy an evening of music provided by the fantastic Bestwood Male Voice Choir. Tickets available from the John Godber Centre (£5).
