About

The Medieval World In Colour
Lakeside Arts Centre
Sat 01 Apr - Sun 18 Jun

Think the medieval world was bland and dark? This new exhibition at Lakeside Arts Centre might just prove you wrong...

Exploring the use, role and sources of colour in the Middle Ages used in both religious and domestic settings, The Medieval World In Colour  examines the surviving forms of colour to look at the medieval colour pallet, illuminating the world in which these colours were used and created.

Dr Diane Wren, exhibition curator today said, ‘The medieval world was full of bright and vibrant colours through which beliefs, symbolism, status and beauty were expressed. These colours are often lost to us today due to their perishable nature.'

The exhibition brings together artefacts that are not usually on display from the University of Nottingham Museum; Nottingham City Museums & Art Galleries; Bassetlaw Museum; Derby Museum and Art Gallery; along with private collections.

There is also a large programme of events around the exhibition including talks, medieval embroidery and medieval dance classes.
