Tuesday 16th October 2018 - Talk will begin at 7pm
The ‘Thankful Villages’ also referred to as the ‘Blessed Villages’. Claire Lyons gives a fascinating insight into those rare communities where everyone who went away to fight in WW1 returned alive.
What should have been a cause for celebration was actually for some a source of shame and embarrassment. As a blanket of grief shrouded over thousands of communities, the thankful villages experienced a different emotion – shame, surrounded by villages where loved ones were not returning.
With the passage of time and the consequent change in attitudes, these thankful villages no longer feel that same shame!
Visitors can attend the talk at the cost of £3
If you wish to join the Arnold Local History Group you can do so also at the annual cost of £10 and entitles you to attend monthly meetings for £1, vote at the AGM and be eligible for election to the committee.
