A new, live video performance based on the novel by Leo Tolstoy.
There was once a War that lasted so long that everyone thought that it was Peace. Set in a fictional time, in a fictional place, a group of artisans gather round a kitchen table to contemplate a real book and a real story called War and Peace by an author that once really lived.
The performers place themselves somewhere between real life war and fictionalized wars as portrayed on the silver screen, inspired by Tolstoy’s desire to blur history with fiction. Proximity, notions of freedom, privilege, safety and the individual versus community are discussed through the ordinariness of day-to-day life. In a modern day attempt to address one of Tolstoy’s concerns: How should one live a moral life in an ethically imperfect world?
This performance is part of neat16.
