About

War & Pieces by Bouke de Vries
The Harley Gallery
4th November 2017 - 7th January 2018

London-based Dutch artist Bouke de Vries has created an epic eight-metre long table piece, using thousands of fragments of porcelain to create a scene of a fierce battle.

On the eve of a battle in previous centuries an extravagant banquet might be held, decorated with porcelain table sculptures depicting classical allegories or even the impending battle. ‘War & Pieces’ is Bouke de Vries contemporary response to this tradition. Besides war, chaos and aggression, the installation uses humour and beauty to satirise classical symbols.
