Focusing on the natural world this course will help you to develop the skills and knowledge to conserve our precious ecology.

You will develop your understanding of wildlife identification and monitoring, as well as engage in practical conservation activities.

It's ideal if you are considering further studies in environmental related sciences or want to learn in a wildlife haven!

During the course you will:

- learn how to identify and monitor a range of plant and animal species within a range of habitats, including woodland, grassland, farmland and wetlands
- get involved in practical activities, investigating biodiversity the ecology of a variety of animal and plant species
- learn about current conservation practice.

What will you gain?

By the end of the course you will have developed knowledge of the principles of ecology.

In addition, you will have been introduced to a range of survey methodologies, to investigate different habitats and/or groups of flora and fauna.

Level: Open to all

Entry requirement: You should have an enthusiasm for conservation or an interest in learning more about the natural world.

Where you'll learn: You will study across both the City and Brackenhurst campuses, to give you experience of studying on both a city and rural university environment.

Transport between the two campuses is included in the price.

Our Brackenhurst Campus is a richly biodiverse estate which acts as a perfect outdoor classroom.

It includes a working farm, woodland and wetland habitats, and you'll start to develop scientific knowledge and practical skills that you need to help conserve valuable wildlife and their habitats.

How you are taught: There will be a mix of classroom lessons, as well as practical conservation activities.

Tutor Profile: You will be taught be a selection of our academic staff who have specialisms in bird and mammal conservation, and are experienced in researching different areas of ecology.

Need accommodation?

You can book a self-catered, single room with private bathroom on our city campus.

If you're aged 16 or 17 then you can stay unaccompanied with agreement from a parent/guardian.

If you're aged 15 then you can stay as long as you are accompanied by a parent/guardian.
