Will The Real Duke of Portland Please Stand Up!

About

Tuesday 21st June, from 7pm

In this facinating talk Lily Ann Dawes will expore the 5th Duke of Portland - often known as The Tunnelling Duke, because of the extensive works carried out on the Welbeck Estate in the mid 19th century.

He is something of an enigma: only 2 known portraits of him exist!

So...

Why did he not have more done?

Did he really have a terrible skin disease which made him avoid contact?

Why did he spend a small fortune on building a virtually complete underground home?

And what was the case which came to court after his death, when it was claimed he was actually another man?

LilyAnn's talks are always lively and interesting - you would be very welcome to come and join us!
