Nottingham Mela | New Art Exchange | Visit Nottinghamshire

New Art Exchange | Hockley | Sneinton Market | Arboretum Park
Wednesday 29 August
- Sunday 2 September 2018

This year celebrates 30 years of the Nottingham Mela, the oldest of its kind in the UK.

The theme is (un)Folding Time and considers history in today’s context. It will tell the stories of local and diaspora communities, support emerging creative talent and make links between the past, present and future.

This event is an arts and cultural feast of family activities, workshops, delicious street food, games, markets, live performances, exhibitions, art films, poetry and literature. The programme will capture the creative and cultural spirit of the city of Nottingham and the Midlands region. With a strong South Asian foundation, the 2018 Mela strives towards creating an inclusive and vibrant festival.

The family fun finale of Nottingham Mela takes place at the beautiful Arboretum Park for a day of celebrations and family-friendly fun on Saturday 1 September.

There will be South Asian street food, mehndi, dance workshops, craft stalls, creative activities for all ages as well as live music and dance performances across the two stages. Plus, a funfair for the little ones.

Start the day with a procession through the park and a drumming circle at the bandstand. The mainstage at the will showcase contemporary artists as well as returning favourites from previous years. Artists include Deepa Rasiya, Soumik Datta and Shin Parwana. At the interative dance stage, learn Bhangra and Bollywood dance with Bhangra Tots and see performances from the likes of Manushi Dance Company and Leena Patel.
