World class sport to see and enjoy all year round
Nottinghamshire is the perfect place to enjoy sport and get active, boasting world-class facilities and great sporting pedigree. Did you know that Nottingham is the home to the oldest existing league football club in the world? This being Notts County Football Club. Nearby you’ll find the world famous Trent Bridge, which has seen Test Cricket being playing for over a century. Nottinghamshire is also proud to be home of two thoroughbred horse-racing tracks Nottingham Racecourse and Southwell Racecourse. The history books show racing taking place in Nottingham as far back as 1773 at what’s described as ‘Nottingham Forest’ but by the end of the 19th Century the Nottingham Racecourse had moved to the present site of nearly 300 acres at Colwick Park.
The National Ice Centre is home of the Nottingham Panthers ice hockey team and the GB Short Track Speed Skating squad. Public skating sessions take place daily and families are welcome. The Nottingham Tennis Centre also has excellent facilities and has played host to many international tournaments.
