Nottingham has an excellent and well-deserved reputation for fantastic theatre, from home-grown productions to national and international touring shows. Read on to find out more about the thriving theatre scene or scroll down to see all current and upcoming shows.

Nottingham Playhouse has been one of the UK’s leading producing theatres since it’s foundation in 1948 and their dynamic output continues to shine. In 2023, they were awarded the UK’s Most Welcoming Theatre Award by the UK Theatres Association in recognition of their dedication to inclusivity through their iconic building, making connections with the local community and diversity of programming. Chief Executive Stephanie Sirr and Artistic Director Adam Penford are recognised as industry leaders.

The historic and beautiful Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall offers a fantastic and diverse year-round programme, including comedy and a variety of other events to enjoy. Don’t miss the chance to go behind the scenes and tred the boards on one of Ezekial Bone's Magic Lantern Tours.

Nottingham Lakeside Arts, located on the beautiful High Fields campus of the University of Nottingham, host a varied programme of performances throughout the year, from thought-proving plays and avant-garde international dance, and have developed an excellent reputation for their heart-warming family theatre.

Nottingham also has a thriving independent and fringe theatre scene, with Nottingham Arts Theatre and the Lace Market Theatre both offering high quality in-house productions as well as offbeat fringe theatre, comedy and events.

Opened in 2017, the Squire Performing Arts Centre is a smaller, modern theatre in Nottingham City Centre which often hosts local and national companies. As well as a broad events programme they are also committed to providing arts and performance education.

Whilst primarily a cinema, Broadway is the hub of the lively, independent Hockley district’s entertainment scene - they regularly screen National Theatre Live events from across the globe.
