Weekend Itinerary On A Budget

Weekend Itinerary On A Budget

With a range of budget freindly accomodation options, cheap places to eat and loads of low cost things to do, Nottingham is one of the best value places to visit for a city break. We're less than two hours from London, but you're certain to find your money goes a lot further in Nottingham. If you're visiting for a short weekend break and would like to take in some history, have a good time and at the same time not break the bank then this is a perfect itinerary for you.

This useful trail gives you a handy list with everything you need to plan your trip, including travel times, addresses, and links to the listing pages to find out more about the attractions. To begin creating your itinerary, click the 'Add All Items to Itinerary' button and from there, you can either keep all the destinations in the pre-prepared list, or amend the itinerary by clicking on the places you are interested in.

You can then rename, email, or print the list so it’s always to hand. You can also save your itinerary to view on your mobile phone and tablet.

Day 1 | Friday

1. Check into the quirky Igloo Hybrid Ho[s]tel located right in the beating heart of Nottingham's City Centre.

2. Head to Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem - England's oldest inn, and explore their fascinating sandstone caves used for centuries for storage of ale. Have a drink in one of the caves and take in the atmosphere of the Ye Olde England.

3. Explore The Bell Inn - one of the oldest inns in England, soak in its old fashioned pub atmosphere and stay for a mouth-watering pub lunch.

Day 2 | Saturday

1. Do some souvenir shopping and stock up on those ever so important fridge magnets at Nottingham Tourism Centre or Dukki Design. If you decide to splash some more cash head to one of delightful independent shops such as Debbie Bryan, Stick and Ribbon or explore a selection of shops in The Exchange shopping centre.

2. Join Robin Hood himself on the Robin Hood Town Tour to learn all about Nottingham's rebellious past and the legend of Robin Hood, which is still very much alive. The tour starts 2pm at the famous Cross Keys pub, Adults £14.50, Concessions £11 and under 14's £8.

Please note: the tour runs most Staurdays between March and October, you can find scheduled tour dates on this page

3. During the colder months we reccomend a visit to the brilliant Nottingham Contemporary to catch up on the latest from contemporary art trends. Exhibitions at this modern art gallery are on rotation so you're sure to see something new even if you've visited it previously. Entry to Nottingham Contemporary is free.

4. Grab some late lunch from Hockley Kitchen, a friendly, independent neighbourhood cafe located in the cool and quirky district of Hockley. Take your pick from fresh salads, hot and cold sandwhiches, each with great vegan and gluten free options, to enjoy at Hartleys or take a wander over to the Robin Hood statue for a picnic with our fameous outlaw and snap some selfies while you're there.

Day 3 - Sunday

1. Visit Wollaton Hall - the entry to both the hall and Natural History Museum (based inside) is free. Explore this Elizabethan mansion along with its 500 acres of its spectacular gardens and parkland for yourself. You may even bump into a deer or two as you roam around the grounds. While you're there you can also visit Nottingham Industrial Museum, which is located just outside the hall in the old stables. It costs £4 to get in and it's well worth it if you're interested in Nottingham's industrial history and heritage.

Please note: Wollaton Hall is not walking distance from the city centre, but you can get there easily by bus. Take the Orange Line bus Number 36 and you'll be dropped off at one of the gates to Wollaton Park. It will then take you around 13 minutes to walk to the hall as you take in the beautiful scenery of the park. You can buy a 24hr return ticket from the bus driver but make sure you have the exact amount for your ticket ready (£4.40 adult, £2.50 under 19) as drivers don't give out change. Alternatively, download NCT app and get an online ticket or pay on your card.

2. Stay onsite and grab some lunch at one of two cafés. You can have your lunch inside the cafés or sit down on the grass or on one of the many benches and have it outside and watch the deer roam around the park. We recommend the latter.
