You are here > Things to Do > Shopping > Independent Shopping in Nottingham > St James' Street
A stone's throw from Nottingham Castle and St James Hotel, St James Street is a pedestrian-only street with more than meets the eye in terms of interesting history. The street leads directly to Old Market Square and hosts a variety of pubs and shops.
Situated in the centre of the road, The Malt Cross is a Grade II listed Victorian Music Hall, complete with a curved glass roof, basement gallery, and curious caves beneath. Stop by on your next trip into Nottingham and you can be treated to delicious homemade food, their very own blend of coffee, loose leaf teas and even famous cream and crushed maltesers hot chocolate. They also host a variety of events including live bands and open mic nights.
Tucked away on St James' Street you will find the Roebuck Inn, which is opposite the former Malt Cross music hall. Built in 1877, the music hall occupied the site of the Malt Cross public house, originally the Roebuck, first recorded in 1760. This Wetherspoon pub has an array of real ales and ciders, along with wine and spirits. The pub also offers a range of meals and snacks, with a range of offers available throughout the week. The pub is suitable for groups and bookings can be taken. FREE WiFi available.
