Are you convinced you can't draw?

Do you struggle to come up with unique ideas?

Fear of failure is a large part of why we struggle when working on new creative projects.

This course is ideal for anyone who'd like to overcome this fear and improve their drawing and design skills in a supportive and enjoyment studio environment.

It's relevant to anyone studying or planning to apply to a design subject at college or university.

Creative thinking is the ability to think without constraint and to be able to explore form and function freely to create innovative solutions in a short space of time.

It's about breaking down the process into clear stages, following tried and tested processes used by industry professionals today.

On this course, you'll learn the skills needed to communicate ideas and develop drawings.

You'll work on a design project from initial concept through to idea generation and development before reaching a final design that you can present effectively.

During the course you will:

- learn how to approach and execute design thinking
- discover how to structure and tackle a project, whilst making the process simple
- design and draw beyond what your mind perceives you are capable of
- learn the importance of front-end design and user experience
- use research imagery to drive open ideas and thinking
- complete lateral thinking exercises to stimulate conceptual thinking
- create a visual diary of your design thinking and explore your own visual language
- work as 'co-designers' to enhance your ideas and those of others
- learn how to draw in different perspectives and proportions
- practise different types of sketching styles and consider how to approach them, including conceptual and technical drawings.

What will I gain?

By the end of the course, you'll have the knowledge and insight on how to approach design.

You'll leave with an excellent grounding in the drawing techniques used by designers and the ability to create effective design concepts that you can add to your portfolio.

Level: Beginner

Entry requirement: You should have an interest in developing your design and drawing skills.

Where you'll learn: You'll be based in the School of Architecture, Design and Built Environment on the City Campus.

You will find open-plan studios and well-equipped workshop spaces to develop your ideas and create exciting work.

You'll also have access to our library to use outside of your short course; whilst you can't reserve or take books away, you're welcome to use them as a resource for research and referencing.

Tutor Profile: Krishan Parmar is an industrial design consultant who has experience working for the likes of Triumph Motorcycles and Jaguar Land Rover.

Having graduated from university with a degree in product and furniture design, Krishan moved into the automotive industry, working on conceptual designs through the development process to resolved models.

Krishan has also worked as a consultant for both automotive and industrial design companies, having provided workshops and guest lectures along the way, and is passionate about transferring the foundation of good design skills to students.
