Home of Castle Gate Gin
Weavers is the long standing home to Castle Gate Gin. This Independent Wine and Spirits Merchants was originally a Public House, founded in 1844 by Edward Weaver and subsequently bought by George Trease in 1897; Weavers has been in the Trease family ever since.
Over the years Weavers has seen many changes to the Nottingham high street. What remains consistent is the Trease family and the focus on bringing the best of wine and spirits to the people of Nottingham.
For the Trease family and all who work there, No.1 Castle Gate holds plenty of history along with forward-thinking creativity. It is here where Weavers formed and perfected Castle Gate Gin. Castle Gate Gin is a unique, yet classic, London Dry style that embraces the distinctive spirit of Nottingham and its people.
The whole team at No.1 Castle Gate have been involved in the creation of this gin and so it truly represents the place where it all started. Distilled in a charming still called ‘Gerard’ the acorns for Castle Gate Gin were mainly foraged in Sherwood Forest and the shires of Central England by Mary and her family. They were then dried, peeled and ground before being added to the other botanicals for maceration prior to distillation.
This notable gin offers a taste profile that is dry with a distinct nutty backdrop thanks to the acorns. The use of citrus marries well with the acorns making a slice of orange or lemon an ideal garnish to this brilliantly local G&T. When popping down to Weavers you will be welcomed (and encouraged) to try a sample of this delightful gin. If that doesn’t suit, they also have a website where you can purchase your bottle of Castle Gate Gin and get it delivered. It comes in two sizes, a 70cl bottle and also a 20cl bottle, which proves to be an excellent present for any gin loving friend or family member. A real gift from Nottingham!
Due to the success of Castle Gate Gin, Weavers have released a sister gin, No.17 Castle Gate Strawberry and Lavender. This is named after the home of their tasting rooms, a fascinating Georgian Town House situated at No. 17 Castle Gate. Inspired by Weavers’ unique acorn gin recipe, this gin is packed full of strawberries along with touches of lavender. The result is a fruit-driven style of gin that is beautifully accessible for both the gin lovers and those who are still to be converted!
