Andrew Bracey - Solo Exhibition prizewinner at Nottingham Castle, 6th December 2014 - 18th January 2015
An exhibition of paintings by Andrew Bracey, winner of the ‘Nottingham Castle 2013 Solo Show’ prize will be hosted in the Castle’s Long Gallery until 18th January 2015 .
For his solo show Andrew selected 20 figurative paintings from the Castle’s own Fine Art collection for his ‘ReconFigure Paintings’ exhibition, which features parasitic, painted additions to the ‘host’ human figures that exist within historical paintings.
Andrew, who graduated with an MA in Fine Art in 2001 and has since exhibited widely in the UK and Europe, is currently a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the University of Lincoln and a member of Suite Studio Group in Manchester.
Andrew has also curated the latest Café Table Commissions in the Café at the Castle. ‘Re-unpacking’ features six artists’ work: Tom Butler, Tim Dunbar, Tracey Eastham, Henrietta Simson, Annabel Tilley & Jenny Wiener. The commissions complement Andrew Bracey’s exhibition and are the artists’ re-engagement with their historical (pre-20th century) precursors, by looking at how they utilise, transform and re-imagine specific artworks from a previous artistic era, thereby creating further conversations and lineages between contemporary and historical artists. The commissions will be on display from 6th December to 22nd March 2015.
