Bands in the Park - Victoria Embankment (Free event)
Sunday 12 September
2.30pm
Join us in this Green Flag award winning park in a new venue for 2021 for a summer series of free concerts.
A short walk from Nottingham city centre, you will find Victoria Embankment, a historical public area that was constructed between 1898 and 1901 with 10 miles of concrete steps, 7.5 miles of iron fencing and 150 seats.
This public area is a great place to go for a casual stroll, along the River Trent.
The suspension bridge was built in 1906 and was originally designed to carry a water supply to Wilford Hill reservoir.
Queen Victoria’s statue arrived in the memorial gardens at Victoria Embankment in 1953 after standing in the city centre’s Old Market Square since it’s unveiling in 1905.
The bandstand on the Victoria Embankment is a Grade-II listed building, and is used to host brass bands during the summer and is also used as a main stage for bands performing at the annual Riverside Festival.
Watch out for other Bands in the park concerts at the Nottingham Arboretum
Audiences are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs or cushions or simply sit on the amphitheatre steps. Unfortunately, we can no longer provide seating for these concerts.

12 September – Maltby Miners Welfare Band (Rescheduled event from August)
MALTBY MINERS WELFARE
Formed in 1911 the Maltby Miners Welfare Band is still going strong after 110 years! Based in Maltby near Rotherham, South Yorkshire they are a very active concert and contest band, performing across South Yorkshire and the surrounding counties in bandstands, castles and stately homes, village halls and churches. Their main concert venue is Rotherham Civic Theatre.
In 2019 the band made a successful tour of Belgium, playing at the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate. In the same year, they were Yorkshire area 4th Section Champions and won a place in the National Finals and a move into the 3rd Section.
Over the past 18 months members have kept in touch through Zoom meetings, talks and quiz nights. We are now back together rehearsing and playing with a busy concert schedule to the end of the year.
