Nottingham Women's History Group (NWHG) is delighted to be celebrating International Women's Day this year with Bromley House Library. Alongside displays about women with links to the Library, curated by the Bromley House team, we will be providing short talks over the course of the day on three of Nottingham's neglected authors: Eliza Sarah Oldham, Annie Matheson and Rose Fyleman.
Members of NWHG will be on hand throughout the day to chat about the remarkable women from our city's history and we'd love to see you. So why not pop in to meet us, borrow or buy a book, and discover some of the fascinating Nottingham women time has forgotten.
Wider displays from across the library collections will include a spotlight on the authors that influenced the work of Jane Austen.
You can book a seat on any of the free short talks - these will be held in the Edith Ransom Reading Room.
11am - Eliza Sarah Oldham (1822 – 1905). A brief look at this unconventional woman whose work uniquely evokes life in Nottingham in the first half of the nineteenth century against the backdrop of the Temperance movement.
1pm - Annie Matheson (1853 – 1924). Come and explore the life and work of this talented and versatile author whose writing reflects her social and political interests.
2pm - Rose Fyleman (1877 – 1957). Learn more about the author of There are Fairies at the Bottom of Our Garden and A Princess Comes to our Town. Rose was a woman of many talents with a rich cultural heritage.
