About

Wednesday 19 August from 11am - 3pm

Calling all superheroes for a world record Superhero Picnic

Superheroes are set to descend on Wollaton Hall and Deer Park for their annual Superhero Picnic.

Wollaton Hall, which is the home of Batman in The Dark Knight Rises, will host a day packed with activities to keep youngsters entertained.

The hugely popular event runs from 11am to 3pm, will see thousands of children and parents take part in games, crafts, dancing with Daisy Dazzle, archery and enjoying a small funfair on site.

More than eight thousand people have RSVP’d to the event through Facebook - great news for the attempt to break the Guinness World Record for ‘Number of people dressed as superheroes in one place’ which will go ahead at 2pm.

The previous record, set in Australia in 2010, saw 1580 superheroes gathering at Federation Square in Melbourne.

To take part, people should dress in either a purchased superhero costume (for example a batgirl, batman, hulk, or spiderman costume) or in a homemade outfit (for example a mask and cloak for a batman costume) as long as the costume is recognisable as a superhero. Sorry, supervillains will not count! Everyone taking part in the world record will be given a wristband and be included in a group photograph.

Children can also enter competitions, with categories including most accurate superhero teddy, most colourful teddy and cutest teddy, with superhero-themed prizes donated by Forbidden Planet Nottingham.

Penny Beniston, Site Manager at Wollaton Hall, said: “Since Wollaton Hall’s alter ego is Wayne Manor, this record deserves to be held by Nottingham. With so many people planning to come along on Wednesday we have a great chance to smash the record!”
Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at Nottingham City Council, said: “We at the council are so proud to be able to provide such a popular free event for families during the summer holidays. The Superhero Picnic is such incredible fun and I hope everyone has a wonderful day.”

Find the Superheroes Picnic at Wollaton Park, in front of courtyard buildings/lakeside area. Most activities will be free but there is a small charge for others.

Car parking charges will apply - with a charge of £2 for 3 hours or £4 per day. Blue badge parking is available free.
