Nottingham Contemporary

Free Event, please book your place though

Join us for a Wednesday Walkthrough – a gallery tour where artists, experts, researchers and academics give short talks in their field of expertise relating to the concepts explored in our current exhibition. This season, we are presenting the first major exhibition of artist Daniel Lind- Ramos (b. 1953, Puerto Rico) in a European institution, showcasing five of the artists' monumental sculptural assemblages, including a newly commissioned work. The totemic sculptures incorporate objects found washed up on beaches and mangroves local to his hometown of Loíza, or gifted from friends, family and community members.

This walkthrough with Dr. Jennifer Rowntree will explore the amazing diversity and adaptations of mangroves and the integral role mangrove forests play in tropical coastal ecosystems, sitting at the interface between the land and the sea.

Dr Jennifer Rowntree is an Associate Professor of Ecological Genetics at the University of Plymouth. She uses DNA and molecular tools to understand how organisms interact with each other and the environment and enjoys working collaboratively across disciplines. Over the past decade, she has been studying mangrove systems, particularly in the Americas and the Caribbean, with a focus on understanding connectivity of mangrove forests and how diversity influences forest resilience.
