The Methodist preacher William Booth, who was born in Sneinton in 1829, founded the of the Salvation Army. Based on the Christian principle of providing salvation, particularly to the poor, the organisation now works throughout the world.
Take a short stroll out of the city centre to Sneinton and you will discover the William Booth statue. There is also an opportunity to explore his Birthplace Museum (by appointment only - call 0115 950 3927).
The Salvation Army is known for its army-like organisational structure and the community work it undertakes to alleviate the suffering of the poor. It runs shelters, charity shops and provides disaster relief,
