Digital Fine Art for 15 - 17 Year Olds

About

Monday 1 - Friday 5 August 2022
Monday to Friday, 10 am - 4 pm, one week
Nottingham Trent University
Price: £475

This course will develop your understanding of the digital fine art world with a focus on creativity, portfolio building, colour theory and art appreciation.
Spending time exploring digital art, you will work with painting, drawing, photo manipulation, colour theory, cartooning, scene making and concept work.
Through the use of digital mediums, you'll learn how to present your own digital artwork to industry standard.
You'll be encouraged to develop a small portfolio of digital art that tells a story and depicts a strong personal expression.

During the course you will:

- focus on practical projects and the appreciation of art
- be encouraged to bring in and discuss your favourite creative inspirations
- learn new digital art techniques
- have the opportunity to import and digitally manipulate physically drawn assets
- look at industry standard design tools and open-source alternatives
- learn about the ways assets can be created digitally, from concept to final product.

Having several mini projects to contend with (including building your own mini portfolio), you'll also be expected to work collectively on a group project which might be to create art assets and a storyboard, or an illustrated story book or comic, or a fine art display.

You'll naturally have different ways of creating art so the challenge of the group project will be to bring all of the pieces together in a coherent style as industry would expect.

What will I gain?

By the end of the course you will leave with a solid understanding of the digital art world so you can continue to develop your skills.

You will also have a visual record of your experiments that will be perfect for your portfolio and will be able to demonstrate your ideas and research skills, feeling confident in discussing and presenting your work.

You'll have gained experience of what it's like to be a design student at university, and an understanding of what admissions tutors are looking for.

Level: Open to all

Entry requirement: You should have an enthusiasm for drawing and painting, whether digital or physical, and an interest in developing your creative and technical skills.

Where you'll learn: You will be based in the School of Art and Design on the City Campus.

You'll find bright studio and workshop spaces to develop your ideas and create exciting work, and Mac / PC suites equipped with industry standard software.

You'll also have access to the library to use outside of your short course; whilst you can't reserve or take away books, you are welcome to use them as a resource for research and referencing.

Need accommodation?

You can book a self-catered, single room with private bathroom on the city campus, right next door to the studios and classrooms.
If you're aged 16 or 17 then you can stay unaccompanied with agreement from a parent/guardian.
If you're aged 15 then you can stay as long as you are accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Doing your Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award?

This course can count as your Gold DofE Residential.

DofE participants must book both the course and accommodation on campus for this to count towards your Gold Award.
