Bonington Gallery launch three new exhibitions:
The first exhibition, 'Karappu,' marks the UK debut of multidisciplinary artist Osheen Siva. Translating to 'darkness/black' in Tamil, 'Karappu' draws inspiration from Afrofuturism, weaving together elements of science fiction, mythology, heritage, comic books, and the vivid hues of South India in Siva's distinctive artistic vision.
In parallel, the Bonington Vitrines #24 presents 'My Nottinghamshire Perspectives in Watercolour' by self-taught artist Shahnawaz Hussain. Through his paintings, Hussain offers glimpses of Nottingham's architectural landmarks and broader county landscapes, capturing the essence of the region in watercolor.
Complementing these exhibitions is 'Peepshow: An Illusion Cut to the Measure of Desire,' curated by the feminist collective Invisible Women as part of the Light After Dark Film Festival. This innovative presentation features curated archival films, offering a unique exploration of desire within the context of cinema.
Admission to the launch event is free, providing an opportunity for art enthusiasts and the community to engage with these diverse and thought-provoking exhibitions.
