Performance 8pm - 10 pm
Peggy's Skylight
Tickets: £10 - £15
Straight 8s band aren't your typical straight-ahead, swing-like-you're-winning big band. Instead they bring the punchiest funk and neo-soul, with feel and groove in heaps. Featuring Dennis Rollins MBE on Trombone, Straight 8s play 100% original arrangements, concocted by band leader and keys player Chris Noble.
Straight 8s Big Band are a one-of-a-kind funk & soul big band experience, combining completely fresh and original arrangements with heavy grooves and virtuoso playing. They aren't your run-of-the-mill swing band – instead they perform incredible arrangements of tunes by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Jamiroquai and Thundercat. 13 Horns alongside a full rhythm section ensure a massive, truly original sound.
Steadily becoming a semi-regular fixture at Peggy's, Straight 8s offer a unique mix of soul, neo-soul, funk, Latin, and even music from further afield. Headed by band leader, arranger and keys maestro Chris Noble, Straight 8s hail from Sheffield and comprise something of a supergroup of players from the region, not least incorporating the much-heralded Dennis Rollins MBE on lead trombone.
Bypassing the usual angle of straight-ahead swing and ballroom, Straight 8s provide something very different – Noble's individual and distinctive arrangements of tunes by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Radiohead, Thundercat, Peter Gabriel and Omar are 100% unique to the band and set them aside from their contemporaries; expect some original tunes in there too, all sure to have you grooving along.
