A new large-scale light event, Garden of Light, has been announced for Newark town centre, bringing illuminated art, performance and interactive experiences to Newark Market Place and St Mary's Magdalene Church this spring.
Taking place on Saturday 7 March 2026 from 6pm to 9pm, Garden of Light will transform the town centre after dark with a vibrant mix of light installations, projections, live performance and hands-on creative activity. The free evening event is designed for all ages and invites visitors to explore Newark in a new and imaginative way.
Celebrating themes of renewal, growth and community, Garden of Light marks the transition from winter into spring through colour, light and shared experiences. Audiences can expect a blend of large-scale spectacle and smaller interactive moments across the town centre.
Programme highlights will include a spring-themed lantern parade curated by Lumo Workshop, featuring lanterns created with local schools, community groups and residents. The parade will feature later in the evening as a shared moment of light and movement.
The programme will also include illuminated walkabout characters, live music, immersive installations, interactive projections, a silent disco and family-friendly creative activities. Local businesses and town centre venues will be open during the event, offering food and drink options throughout the evening.
Garden of Light is delivered by Checkmate Productions as part of the Newark Cultural Heart Initiative, funded by the UK Government's Local Regeneration Fund, overseen by the Newark Town Board and administered by Newark and Sherwood District Council, with support from We Are Newark.
Further programme details and participation opportunities will be announced soon.
