The Tower will open for guided tours on Saturday 14th September.
Normally closed to the public it is open, depending on fine weather, for fantastic views across the city. It is a long way up and only children 10 years and older accompanied by an adult will be permitted to make this daring climb. Heritage displays and guided tours of the church will also be presented. The church will be open if it rains, only the Tower is subject to closure if there is rain or high wind.
Guided tours of the church will point out all the interesting features and historical architecture on Saturday 14th September.
About St Mary's:
St Mary's Church is the ancient Parish and civic church in the city of Nottingham and is well over 500 years old. Referred to in the Domesday Survey, then in the 12th Century Nottingham was burnt down three times and St Mary's destroyed and rebuilt. Evidence can be seen of the Norman Church. The present building was started in 1386 and completed in 1475. It was the town's largest building and used for civic and legal purposes including the election and swearing in of the Mayor and Corporation.
The oldest door can be found in the North aisle. During the reign of Charles II, it became compulsory to display the Royal Arms in a church. St Mary's Church still has the Lion and the Unicorn freestanding at the west end of the aisle with cushion and crown above the West door.

This event is free but donations are gladly accepted.
Also in church refreshments will be served and Brass Rubbing will be on offer for all to try.
