Free entry from 8pm
Receiving rave reviews for live shows both touchingly intimate and raucously danceable, Me & My Friends present a lovingly crafted, infectious, completely unique, “life-affirming sound” (Loose Ends, BBC Radio 4). Incorporating influences from vintage Roots Reggae and Afrobeat, contemporary folk styles and even obscure Caribbean field recordings, the quintet move with sensitive ease from delicate folk and gospel harmonies through to unstoppably hip-shaking grooves.
Able to change gears at will with dexterity, Nick Rasle (vocals, guitar), Emma Coleman (cello, vocals), Sam Murray (clarinet, vocals), James Grunwell (bass) and Fred Harper (drums, toasting) show inimitable warmth in playing together, intermingling their various backgrounds in folk, classical and jazz into loosely West African and Caribbean platforms www.meandmyfriends.co.uk
“They’ve got joy written through them, like a stick of Blackpool rock!” Alex Lester, BBC Radio 2.
"I can't recommend this band highly enough" Jim McLaughlin, Festival Director, Musicport.
"Everything about this hugely accomplished debut radiates quality… Quirky, joyful, a wonderful sound that combines some serious artful tones with a sense of fun... delightful" Ian Parker and Ali Mason, forfolksake.com
"Listening to them is musical sunshine" Jed Skinner, digyorkshire.com
