About

Saturday 9th March | 2024 | 7.30pm - 9.30pm
St Giles' Church
£5.00 - £15.00

This beautiful chamber concert marks the 50th birthday of Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra.

Originally founded as Nottingham Sinfonietta, the orchestra gave its first concert in St Giles' Church, West Bridgford and we return to play Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture, as on the first occasion. Schumann's Konzertstück is an exciting piece for four horns and orchestra and our soloists are from the French Horn section (one of whom played in the first Nottingham Sinfonietta concert too!).

We have two lesser known works; an overture by Salieri, who taught Beethoven and influenced Mozart, and Cringlemire Garden, a piece for strings by Ruth Gipps, written in 1952. After this wealth of wonderful music Beethoven's Fifth Symphony brings the concert to a spectacular close.
