Peggy's Spotlight

We're back for another Spotlight event, welcoming early career musicians to the stage! This month, we're excited to welcome back Vee Adu showcasing her soulful tone and powerhouse vocals and the Ade Anifowose Trio, who will perform an eclectic set of music that journeys through Afro-Cuban, traditional swing jazz, and Brazilian samba styles.

"The event's mission is to shine a light on homegrown talent giving them a chance to shine on a stage that feels like home…" – Iulia Teodora Matei, Leftlion

We're back for another Spotlight event, welcoming early career musicians to the stage! This month, we're excited to welcome back Vee Adu, but this time with her band! Vee is making waves in the local music scene with her original material, showcasing her soulful tone and powerhouse vocals. Also joining us is the Ade Anifowose Trio, who will perform an eclectic set of music that journeys through Afro-Cuban, traditional swing jazz, and Brazilian samba styles.

Vee Adu
Meet Vee Adu, an 18-year-old singer-songwriter from Nottingham, making waves in the local music scene with her soulful tone and powerhouse vocals. Drawing from a colourful musical background of jazz, soul and blues, Vee's original material delves into the emotional complexities of betrayal, loss and love, softly reeling listeners in with her relatable, but authentic storytelling.

Having performed at a variety of venues across the country, including Metronome, Bodega and Rough trade, Vee has successfully captivated audiences with her dynamic live shows, highlighting her incredible vocal abilities time and time again.

Her guest appearances at the Broadway Cinema, Pitcher and Piano, and Peggy's Skylight have further showcased her vocal versatility as an artist, performing for crowds in very intimate venues. Also, she has recently opened for 'Liam Bailey' in
Rescue rooms Nottingham, allowing larger crowds to follow the story that she tells through her music, creating a beautiful, supportive community in her area.

Ade Anifowose Trio
Ade Anifowose is a drummer currently studying Music at the University of Nottingham. As a way of bringing his artistic vision and material to life for his end of year recital in June, he formed a trio recruiting Lucas Walters on piano and Simon Paterson on bass to play alongside him. Also featured in the performance was Ines Fonseca who lended her voice and talent to aid in its presentation. Together, they played an eclectic set of music, journeying through afro-cuban, traditional swing jazz and brazilian samba styles.

With an affinity for music's unique storytelling qualities, Ade always seeks to arrange a compelling set of music that leaves its mark on the audience. A highlight from the trio's June performance was Duke Ellington's Caravan reimagined by Ade, which captured its melancholic vibe in an exciting syncopated Afro-Cuban style. This trio aims to continue with their music making, experimenting with new compositions to effectively put on a great show.
