10 August 2014
Re-enact the march of the 1st/8th Batallion Sherwood Foresters from Newark Market Place to Derby via Radcliffe-on-Trent. We will attempt to recreate the photograph taken on 10th August 1914 before walking 16 miles to Radcliffe-on Trent.
Participants can join the march either at Newark Market Place or at Flintham.
On arrival at Radcliffe-on-Trent there will be a short ceremony of reconciliation with invited officials from Emmendingen, Newark's twinned town in Germany. There will also be the opportunity for members of the public to join the march as a sponsored walk for local charities.
There will be opportunities for young people to conduct research prior to the march and a series of associated exhibitions and talks both prior to and after the event. A DVD will be produced that will be available to local schools.
This event is part of Trent to Trenches a programme of events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.
