The Middle East and the Holocaust: A Story from Baghdad

About

Sunday 7 June 2026 | 1pm - 3pm
The National Holocaust Museum
Tickets: £5 - £15

What happened outside of Europe during the Holocaust? Discover the history of Jewish communities in the Middle East, and how their persecution was linked to the Holocaust.

Before 1941, sizeable Jewish communities flourished all over the Middle East and North Africa. 2-4 June mark the 85th anniversary of the Farhud: a violent attack on the Jews of Baghdad, who lived there for overe 2,700 years. Today that community exists no more - and neither do countless Jewish communities in Algeria, Bahrain, Eygpt, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mibya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen.
The National Holocaust Museum are delighted to co-host and event with Harif, the Association of Kews from the MENA and the Babylonain Jewry Heritage Center in Or-Yehuda to explore these questions with a panel of experts, and to share some beautiful objects taht illustrate the legacy of inter-cultural dialogue, co-existence and co-production.
