The East Midland’s forest playground!
Located to the north of Nottinghamshire, Sherwood Pines is one of the largest forests in the midlands for a great family day out.
One of the most popular destinations for mountain bikers in the region. You can improve your techniques on the skills loop before hitting the trails, then venture on to the fast-flowing Robin Hood blue-graded trail or the more challenging Outlaw red-graded route. If you’re out for your first ride in the forest the Maid Marion Family trail is a great option. Sherwood Forest Cycles offer a hire service if you don’t have your own wheels!
Find the sculptures from the Gruffalo story and or let the little ones loose in three accessible play areas. Near the car park you’ll find Go Ape, a café, toilets (including a Changing place facility) and the Visitor Centre. There are also regular activity trails, based on characters from your children’s favourite books!
You can also have a go at disc golf. It's like regular golf, but with flying discs instead. It's surprisingly easy to pick up and great for both adults and children. The aim is simple: follow the nine-hole course and get your disc into each basket in as few throws as possible. You can hire discs at the visitor centre, there are no course fees, and there's no need to pre-book. You'll get the hang of it in no time!
If you’re looking for a more chilled experience woodland solitude is never far away. There a miles of waymarked trails, perfect for a reset from the busy day to day. Whatever your visit to Sherwood Pines looks like a visit to Sherwood Pines Café is a great way to round off your visit.
From leisurely woodland walks to energetic play areas where the kids can burn off energy, family bike rides to a round of disc golf—Sherwood Pines is packed with things to do for everyone.
