Discover the Wonders of Space and Science at Sherwood Observatory
Sherwood Observatory is a new multi-million-pound visitor attraction located in the heart of Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. It has been constructed on the site of a stunning Victorian reservoir building and offers a unique opportunity to explore the wonders of space and science.
Operated by a volunteer-led charity, the observatory aims to make astronomy, science, and other engaging topics accessible to all through its fully accessible Planetarium and Science Centre.
What Visitors Can See and Do:
The Sherwood Observatory Planetarium and Science Centre provides an inspiring space to delve into the cosmos, experience the vast scale of the universe, explore exhibitions, attend special events, and enjoy immersive, state-of-the-art planetarium shows.

Planetarium Shows
Featuring a rotating programme of over 20 shows, the planetarium offers something for everyone—from animated space adventures designed for children to more in-depth explorations of topics such as aliens, science, space history, and even shows themed around popular music.
Open Days and Evenings
Open Days (held during the summer) and Open Evenings (in autumn and winter) allow guests to engage with a range of space-related topics. These events often include Q&A sessions with astronomy experts, telescope demonstrations (weather permitting), and more.
Resident and Visiting Exhibitions
Partnering with various institutions, Sherwood Observatory hosts a variety of exhibitions throughout the year. Past displays include 'Microscopic Meteorites' in collaboration with the University of Nottingham.
Events and Seminars
The venue also hosts an exciting programme of events such as live music concerts, creative writing courses, and special one-off sessions focused on specific scientific or cultural topics.
Café and Relaxation Space
Visitors with planetarium show tickets are welcome to relax and enjoy scenic views and light refreshments in the on-site café.
