Robin Hoods Hideout declared a top ten natural English play spot.

Sherwood Pines, including its natural play area, Robin Hood’s Hideout, has been identified as a top ten natural play spot in England according to the Forestry Commission. The organisation that manages one of the key country parks that make up Sherwood Forest, has conducted a public opinion survey to find out what people thought about playing in woodland. Interestingly, 95% of people agreed that the places are fun and enjoyable but an increasing number said they were too busy to visit. Over a third of people quizzed said that in the last three years they have not visited a woodland or forest due to time pressure commitments. Yet 74% of people polled did agree that playing in the woods is good for children’s health. Sherwood Pines covers 3,000 acres of woodland in the heart of Sherwood Forest and is home to activities such as cycling and Go Ape! Earlier this month the attraction has also held overnight bushcraft events as visitors make their own place to stay out of branches and brash. There are two interactive walks at the park which are around 2-3 miles and there is an open grass area perfect for picnics and family games such as Frisbee and cricket. Robin Hood’s Hideout includes tree houses, rope bridges and scrambling nets – perfect to keep children entertained and active. So whilst there are still a few weeks left of the summer holidays, Sherwood Pines is a fantastic option for days out with the kids.
