Things to do this half term, 22-30 October

It’s October half term and if you have a family there’s the chance to go away for a few days or have days out with things to do for your children. If you don’t have children, then you’ll probably notice that the traffic, trams and telephones will be a little bit quieter. Either way there’s plenty for everyone.  GameCity - let’s get this straight GameCity is now massive and very, very cool. If you have any interest in games, whether it’s Sonic the Hedgehog or Tetris, go along to some of the events on show throughout Nottingham. Exciting options include, Capturing James Bond, Kooky, Galleries of Justice Virtual Heritage Tour and a 90’s Retro Games Night. Robin Hood Pageant - head to Nottingham Castle on 29 and 30 October for a fantastic celebration of the world famous outlaw at the home of his arch enemy. Costume characters and medieval stalls fill the Castle Grounds and look out for living history demonstrations and re-enactments with jousting and of course, archery. Tickets cost £8 per adult with children and concessions £6, you can book these in advance through the Royal Centre Box Office on 0115 989 5555. Halloween - as home to Lord Byron, an early inspiration to the Vampire genre, together with many haunted venues, Nottinghamshire can have a very rightful claim to be the place to be during Halloween. Around the city of Nottingham, the gothic inspired architecture of Watson Fothergill add to the spooky atmosphere.   More Great Half Term Events: The Big Draw - Creswell Crags, the Harley Gallery and Rufford Abbey are all taking part in The Big Draw, with some very special events. Aimed at children aged 6 to 12, you could have a go with some excellent workshops covering mess-making and cave paintings and more. Klaus Weber - the latest installation at the highly acclaimed Nottingham Contemporary covers artworks that challenge our perceptions around the natural world. The contemporary art gallery is an excellent place to visit at any time and the interactive nature of the art covered makes it a great place for families too. Festival of the Environment - head to Creswell Crags on Sunday for a family fun day with art, music, craft demonstrations, shelter building and much, much more. Family Roller Skating Disco - this is an excellent way to have fun for all the family, so put on your bowers and have a go on 29 October at the Matthew Holland Complex in Selston. DH Lawrence Festival Exhibition - celebrating the centenary of the publication of Lawrence’s first novel, the exhibition shows some of the places around Eastwood that appear in the book and the opportunity to listen to some of the scenes. Half term holiday club at Attenborough - suitable for children 4 and above on Tuesday and Thursday there are fun filled activities at this outstanding Nature Reserve. Autumn is an excellent time to visit too with plenty of bird migration taking place.   And that’s about it.
